Wayne Grudem is wonderful on gender issues and most areas of theology. Gordon Fee is also an adept interpreter and defender of the Bible.
Don Basham - Late charismatic deliverance minister affiliated with the Disciples of Christ. He used the experiences of his ministry to teach believers how to deliver themselves from the demons behind their sins and life problems, through rebukes, Bible study, and prayer. David K. Bernard (b. 1956) - founder of New Life United Pentecostal Church in Austin, and president of Urshan Graduate School of Theology. One of the most recognizable defenders of Oneness Pentecostalism, whose theology resembles that of Praxeas. He has written 24 doctrinal books and is considered by the Oneness movement to be one of their best scholars, with degrees in jurisprudence, math, and business. John and Lisa Bevere - charismatic evangelical husband and wife team who write general books on Christian living. John Bevere is particularly emphatic about the importance of deliverance ministries, while Lisa writes more specifically to women's issues. Their optimistic view of history is a form of postmillennialism in which God's kingdom is brought about through charismatic renewal. Larry Christenson (b. 1928) - charismatic revivalist who writes from a liberal Lutheran perspective on how to bring about charismatic renewal. His influence helped popularize the movement among non-evangelicals. Christenson advocates placing experience rather than doctrine at the center of Christian life, and sees charismatics as being in the tradition of Montanus. Don Colbert - Christian nutritionist and personal physician for faith-healer Benny Hinn. Colbert centers his ministry on the belief that foods and herbs mentioned in the Bible contain supernatural healing properties, so that Christians who order their diet by the Bible need not fear serious illnesses. Colbert also suggests secular doctors' health advice is unreliable compared to the Bible's medical secrets. Thus, hidden in the Bible are cures for cancer, diabetes, memory loss, arthritis, and other problems. As a graduate of Oral Roberts University, his personal theology is similar to that of the Word of Faith movement, with a focus on healing. Eastman Curtis - charismatic youth speaker, pastor of Destiny Church, and head of Eastman Curtis ministries. He writes for Charisma magazine, appears on The 700 Club, and hosts the TV show This Generation. Gives much focus to end-time prophecy. Titles: Dare to Destinize; Every Day I Pray for My Teenager; Kickin' Devil Hiney; Raising Heaven Bound Kids in a Hell Bent World; Turn Loose of Your "But" and Go with God; Xtreme Talk; You Can Make It Happen.
Jim and Carol Cymbala - charismatic ministers of the Brooklyn Tabernacle. They emphasize Spirit-baptism and speaking in tongues as normative for all believers, yet their appeal reaches far beyond charismatic circles. They use personal stories rather than the Bible to back up their teachings. Many of Jim's works focus on how to become the kind of person God cannot help but bestow grace on. Jim's titles: Breakthrough Prayer; The Church God Blesses; Fresh Faith; Fresh Power; Fresh Wind, Fresh Fire; The Life God Blesses; The Promise of Answered Prayer; The Promise of God's Power. Gordon Fee (b. 1934) - world-renowned biblical scholar and dean of New Tesatment studies at Regent College. Fee is active in the egalitarian group Christians for Biblical Equality but is otherwise conservative. He is a leading Pentecostal critic of the Word of Faith movement. Fee has also served on the Committee on Bible Translation. Richard J. Foster - evangelical Quaker professor at Friends University in Wichita, who promotes the strict practice of inward, outward, and corporate Christian disciplines as essential for spiritual growth. Unlike Don Whitney, Foster takes a mystical approach to the Christian life. Francis Frangipane - charismatic pastor who focuses on Christlikeness. Although closely associated with charismatic and Third Wave teachers, he prefers not to be categorized as such. He believes that regardless of titles, recipients of miraculous spiritual gifts today should still be open to testing. Wayne Grudem (b. 1948) - Reformed Baptist professor whose emphases are continuing prophecy and the attributes of God. John Hagee - charismatic fundamentalist and frequent TV preacher who shows some Word of Faith influence. He focuses on biblical inerrancy, America's moral problems, and national Israel in biblical prophecy. His dispensationalism goes beyond the classic view to suggest different ways of salvation for Jews and Gentiles, and he insists that Christ will return within the next few years. Jack Hayford (b. 1934) - founding pastor of the Church on the Way, a Foursquare Gospel church. Also founder and chancellor of the King's Seminary. Hayford hosts the Living Way TV and radio programs and has composed many choruses based on charismatic theology. Titles: The Beauty of Spiritual Language; Blessing Your Children; Glory in Your House; Hayford's Bible Handbook; The Heart of Praise; I'll Hold You in Heaven; Kingdom Power; Living the Spirit-Formed Life; Praise in the Presence of God; Prayer Is Invading the Impossible; Rebuilding the Real You; What the Bible Reveals About Heaven; Worship His Majesty. Selwyn Hughes - Welsh founder of Christians for World Revival (est. 1965), which seeks to spread charismatic renewal to other nations. He is also an authority on pastoral counseling. Charles Hummel (b. 1923) - charismatic evangelical Anglican who recently served as director of faculty ministries for InterVarsity Christian Fellowship and as president of Barrington College. He is a frequent speaker and author encouraging Christian freedom and life without guilt. Hummel also seeks to spread charismatic renewal to churches in cooperation with InterVarsity. Hummel was also a consultant for the NIV. Charles H. Kraft - charismatic deliverance minister and professor at Fuller Theological Seminary since 1969. A former missionary in Nigeria, he is an authority in Christian communication and cross-cultural evangelism. Titles: Anthropology for Christian Witness; Christianity in Culture (w/ Bernard Ramm); Christianity with Power; Confronting Powerless Christianity; Deep Wounds, Deep Healing; Defeating Dark Angels; I Give You Authority; The Rules of Engagement.
Greg Laurie (b. 1952) - Arminian dispensational founder and pastor of Harvest Christian Fellowship, the third largest church in California, and host of the TV and radio program "A New Beginning." An early advocate of seeker sensitive churches, he has since become critical of the excesses of the movement. While generally charismatic, he opposes deliverance ministries and Third Wave revivalism. Eddie Long - charismatic but fairly traditional pastor of New Birth Missionary Baptist Church, and founder and CEO of its Faith Academy. He is best known for his audio and video sermon series, and he has been a featured speaker at Promise Keepers events. Ron Phillips has prophesied that Long will bring Baptists into a charismatic revival. Titles: Called to Conquer; I Don't Want Delilah, I Need You; The Power of a Wise Woman; Passion for Life; Restoring the House of God; Taking Over; Thy Kingdom Come; What a Man Wants, What a Woman Needs.
Francis B. MacNutt (b. 1925) - Catholic prayer healer who teaches that God never intends suffering for His children and that therefore all diseases are attacks of Satan. One of the first Roman Catholics to be involved in the charismatic movement. Earl Paulk (b. 1927) - Pentecostal archbishop and founder of The Cathedral at Chapel Hill. Known for preaching against racism in the 1950s, he subscribes to the Kingdom Creed, a Pentecostal confession that emphasizes healing. Teaches absolute ministerial authority and does not allow criticism of his ministry; "no man can touch a prophet." John L. Sherrill (b. 1923) - Episcopal layman who helped launch the charismatic movement outside Pentecostalism, especially in Catholic and Episcopal churches. He and his wife Elizabeth also helped co-write several modern classics associated with other authors. Titles: The Cross and the Switchblade (w/ David Wilkerson); God's Smuggler (w/ Brother Andrew); The Hiding Place (w/ Corrie ten Boom); My Friend, the Bible; Little Miracles in Real Life; They Speak with Other Tongues; When God Breaks Through. Robert Webber (b. 1933) - charismatic, evangelical Episcopal professor at Wheaton College. Webber leads "Renew Your Worship" workshops to recover the significance and vitality of congregational worship. He is one of the most well-spoken advocates of Praise and Worship music. His recent writings show influence from Leonard Sweet and other moderate evangelicals.
